Economic Development

Established in 1912, the City of Donald is a small town nestled in the heart of the Willamette Valley strategically located 27 miles north of Salem and 24 miles south of Portland. It was once home to the Oregon Electric Railway, Oregon’s first electric railway, and is best known for being in close proximity to Champoeg State Heritage Park.
Economically, the City of Donald is primarily agricultural where most of the World’s hazelnuts are grown but also has a variety of other traded-sector industrial companies within its boundaries. Some of these traded sector companies include the Hazelnut Growers of Oregon, Pacific Lumber, Valley Agronomics, and Capital Lumber. The city’s local economy is assisted by the North Marion County Enterprise Zone as well as its accessibility to necessary amenities along with its strategic location. Partnering with its neighbors and working regionally as well as locally, Donald is continuously working to ensure the success of its business community.
To experience Donald is to experience the essence of small-town charm and strength in community. In the sprit of our agricultural roots and by what many others have already been witness to, it is a great place to grow.
