City of Donald, Oregon

At the December City Council meeting, the Council voted to recognize and award Jan Olsen as the 2024 Community Member of the Year. Jan has dedicated countless hours to volunteering in many different facets; she has served as a City Councilor for an astounding 12 years, volunteered at a myriad of community events, hosted rock painting for kids for several years at the Community Center and is always helping fellow community members in need.

I had the honor and privilege of interviewing Jan and when asked what motivates her to step

forward as much as she does, she responded with a simple, yet sincere “I’d want someone to help

me if I ever needed it”. She then shared a heart-felt story about how her road to caring for others

began with a gift from her grandmother, a statue of St. Francis.

Jan moved to Donald in 2005 after she fell in love with the quaint community and although she

understands that growth is necessary, she is dedicated to preserving the small town feel she and

so many others love about Donald.
